Junior Cricket

Youth Cricket is an essential part of a healthy cricket club. Guildford has a tradition of producing and developing young cricketers - four club members (Martin and Darren Bicknell, Rikki Clarke and Ashley Giles - all products of the Guildford CC Colts) currently play County Cricket and all have represented England at some level.

Parents of Juniors should make a note of your son/daughter’s age group Team Manager.  Make sure that the Manager has your contact details (phone and email) for team selection purposes.  The Managers are:
 

Objectives of the Colts Programme

1. To introduce cricket to young children. This involves group coaching, playing in teams and matches, and the opportunity to watch senior cricket, including Surrey CCC during the County Week at Guildford in July.

2. To give individual and specialist tuition to older and more able children.

3. At Under-15 level and above, to introduce boys into men's cricket. The intention is to produce club cricketers, who will become playing members of Guildford's senior teams or other clubs.

4. To help exceptional young cricketers to develop into players capable of representing Guildford CC 1st XI in the Surrey Championship Premier Divisions, and beyond.

Junior Organisation

The Junior Manager is Mark Speers (tel: 07984 181745). He is supported by a large numbers of coaches, all of whom hold a cricket coaching qualification (several hold the UKCC Advanced Certificate).

The Junior Section Administrators are Terri Walter (01483 560201 - U-12 and older) and Kathryn Sweet (01483 572451 - U-11 and younger).

Junior cricket is played on the large ground at Woodbridge Road, which includes an artificial pitch and practice nets. Winter practice is held at the Surrey Cricket Centre at George Abbot School at Burpham, on the edge of Guildford.

Team kit for each age group is provided but the Club also operates a cricket equipment shop in the Pavilion at Woodbridge Road, at which cricket clothing and equipment can be purchased. Some second hand items are available.

Age Groups

Under 9, 10, U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17. At some age groups, two squads are operated.
